Frequently asked questions
Open ChatIt and tap "Sign up." Choose a username and a password — that's it. You don't need a phone number or email address to use ChatIt.
Because ChatIt is end-to-end encrypted and we don't collect email addresses or phone numbers by default, password recovery options are limited. If you added a recovery email in Settings, you can use it to reset your password. Otherwise, please email support@chat-it.net from a device you've previously used and we'll do our best to help.
Yes. All one-on-one chats and private rooms use end-to-end encryption based on the Matrix protocol's Olm/Megolm implementation. Your messages are encrypted on your device before they leave it. Our servers store only encrypted data — we cannot read your messages.
Long-press (iOS) or tap-and-hold (Android) on any message you sent, then select "Delete." The message will be removed for everyone in the chat.
Tap the user's profile, then tap "Block" to stop receiving messages from them. To report abuse, harmful content, or a violation of our Terms, email support@chat-it.net with the username and a description of what happened. We review every report within 24 hours.
You can request account deletion from inside the app (Settings → Account → Deactivate account), or via our web form at chat-it.net/chatit/delete-account.html. Deletion is permanent and removes all your account data within 30 days.
First, check that notifications are enabled in your device's Settings → Notifications → ChatIt. Then, in ChatIt, go to Settings → Notifications and make sure they are enabled there too. If the problem continues, try logging out and back in. Still stuck? Email us.
ChatIt is free to use. To keep it free, we show occasional ads through Google AdMob. Ads are never shown inside chats. You can read about how AdMob handles data in our Privacy Policy.
Child safety is our highest priority. If you encounter content involving the abuse or exploitation of a minor, email support@chat-it.net immediately with the username and any evidence. See our Child Safety Policy for details on how we handle these reports.
Yes. Sign in with the same username and password on each device. You may need to verify each new device from a device that's already signed in, to keep your encrypted messages secure.
You must be at least 17 years old to use ChatIt. See our Terms of Service for full details.
